Edit From Samba to Urban - Dennistoun Palais' Rich History
dance halls.
Venues like the Dennistoun Palais were packed with revellers almost every night when the only chance to meet the opposite sex was at the dancin'.
Today, with formal dancing classes springing up again across the city, a new generation of kids are
learning to strut their stuff.
These days, you can learn anything from line dancing to salsa - and it's still a great way to meet new friends.
When i was a teenager and living in Glasgow i loved the Palais ,I have great memories of that time in my life,,
my mother and father were greatr dancers, mamie and louie smith, we immigratred to canada in 1948, they used to go to blackpool and won a trophy, im tryin to get in touch with smith cousins from ruchazie or dows from at one time appin rd.,
Can anyone help me? After the Palais we had the Rollerina then Fine Fare, then Gateway then...?
Until finally Somerfield. Can someone fill in the blank, pretty please.
We were teenagers during the war and went to the Palais.
If we waited for the last dance we missed the last bus.
YES we walked home to Cardonald often in the blackout.
