Edit Glasgow's Mecca for dancers

This picture takes a quick-step back in time to the glamorous hey-day of the Glasgow dance hall.

The Dennistoun Palais was destroyed by fire in 1936 but reopened in 1938 as the biggest dance hall in the city, with a capacity of 1800. The Palais remained a mecca for dancers until its closure in 1962.

It was then converted into a supermarket and the site has now been cleared for flats.

This is still a beautiful building and it's a shame it couldn't be restored and used as a musuem to the area possiblely a cimema of the areas history and folk or something that will keep the place alive in the history of the folk.

My late Aunt frequented The Palais in the 1930 i think that is where she learned the Jitterbug her father looked down on dance halls but like some young ones she slipped out and went she loved dancing. My Mother was born in Parkhouse Lane in 1915 that is where the brewery is now,one of my other aunts lived in Edmund street off Ark lane i think it has all gone now. I like this site it takes me back to some of my past. June Gibson

My parents Louie and Mamie Smith were great dancers, I know they must have danced there, because they often talked about it, also they went to Blackpool and entered the ballroom dancing and won a trophy.

This is a beautiful building like Veronica said,to bad it cant be restored,,Its a shame to see these buildings being torn down,
